14th REAAA Business Forum, Taipei, Taiwan
Theme : Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Roads with Future Engineer Leadership
The 14th REAAA Business Forum was held in April 2026 at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) in Taipei, Taiwan. Co-hosted by the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) and the China Road Federation (CRF), this forum focused on the theme: “Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Roads with Future Engineer Leadership”.
Against the backdrop of escalating climate impacts, rapid digital transformation, and the urgent need for net-zero emissions, the forum highlighted autonomous driving technologies, data-driven disaster risk governance, and circular economy innovations as key drivers for building future-proof road infrastructure. The forum brought together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders from REAAA member countries to explore how smart technologies and sustainable practices can enhance resilience and transform approaches to infrastructure development.
Key Highlights:
- Data-Driven Transportation & AI Validation: Exploration of Taiwan’s strategies for utilizing data to enable safer, smarter roads, alongside advanced AI design and validation methodologies for the transition toward vehicle autonomy.
- Open-Source Autonomous Integration: Integration of scalable, open-source autonomous driving software platforms to accelerate public transport transformation and address driver shortages across global networks.
- Smart Disaster Risk Governance: Application of end-to-end early warning systems, information intelligence, and science-driven emergency management to protect road infrastructure from cascading natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes.
- Low-Carbon Pavement & Circular Economy: Development of innovative cold-mix paving materials utilizing 100% Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and crumb rubber, achieving net-zero emissions in road construction without relying on hot-mix processes.
- Smart Asset Management & Resilience: Advancement of asset management initiatives designed specifically to reduce the carbon footprint of transport networks while increasing their ability to withstand extreme environmental conditions.
- People-Centric Mobility & Future Engineering: Focus on human-centered transport planning and the evolving role of artificial intelligence in equipping the next generation of engineers for future infrastructure challenges.
The forum featured distinguished speakers, panelists, and moderators from REAAA member countries such as Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and international committees, who shared real-world smart applications and case studies in the road and transport sector.
