The 7th REAAA Business Forum
The 7th REAAA Business Forum
The REAAA Business Forum was established to facilitate road sector business-to-business collaborations in road engineering or related sectors and enhance membership of REAAA from business practitioners, institutions or companies.
The vision of Business forum is “to be the center of information to support, facilitate and collaboration among business entities in road engineering industry between REAAA members and many other countries in the region”. The mission is “to always encourage, facilitating and connecting Business-to-Business collaboration in road engineering related industry especially in Asia and Australasia regions”.
To achieve the vision and missions, the forums have been conducted since 2014 and regularly held in conjunction with REAAA Council Meetings or Conferences.
The first three Business Forums were held in Bali in April 2014 (theme: “Public Private Partnerships”), Sydney in October 2014 (theme: “Road Technology Support and Products Related to Road Projects”) and Tokyo in November 2016 (theme: “New Technologies on Road Construction”) which included a field visit to the Japan Highway Techno Fair 2016. They were very successful in facilitating business cooperation with about 200 delegates participating this event.
The 4th REAAA Business Forum was held in Bali on 23rd March 2017. The theme was “Expanding Opportunities for Infrastructure Investment in Developing Countries” which featured by prominent speakers from many countries. About 100 delegates attended the Forum.
The 5th REAAA Business Forum was held in Manila, Philippines, on 21 July 2017 to coincide with the 15th REAAA Conference and other associated events, including the 107th Governing Council Meeting. The theme was “Golden Era of Infrastructure Development in Philippines”. About 80 delegates attended the Forum.
The 6th REAAA Business Forum was held in Kuala Lumpur on 30th October 2018. the topics are “Potential Partnership for Business Opportunity in Asia Australasia”. About 70 delegates and participants attended the Forum.
The 7th REAAA Business Forum was held in Taipei on 10th April 2019. the topics are “Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient Roads with Future Engineer Leadership”. About 100 delegates and participants attended the Forum. The forum was opened by Dr. Yung-Hui Chou, Chairman China Road Federation and Ms. Nonon Wardhani, Coordinator REAAA Business Forum.
There were 4 sessions/topics in The 7th forum:
Session 1: Development of Highway System in 40 Years and Beyond, moderated by Ms. Wen-yuh Leu Deputy Chief Engineer of Freeway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communication.
Session 2: The Sustainable Development of Road and Safety, moderated by Dr Min-Chih Liao, Assistant Professor of Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
Session 3: The Practice of Application of Smart Roads, moderated by Dr. Yu-Ting Hsu, Assistant Professor of Department of Civil Engineering, National Taiwan University.
Session 4: The Disaster and Risk Management of Resilient Roads, moderated by Dr. Jieh-Haur Chen, Professor of Department of Civil Engineering, National Central University.
The 7th Reaaa’s Business Forum has successfully satisfied the need of business entities to get information, establish connections, and enter negotiations. Hopefully in the future REAAA Business Forum can be continued regularly, in line with the continuous Growth of the region and can bring more collaboration in road related sector business. This forum has also explored the meaning of how smart, sustainable, and resilient roads work together with a great future leadership in an engineering sector.
In this forum all participants including the speakers gave each other perception and point of view how the development of roads engineering build a system in 40 years and beyond, and how smart the system will be build to maintain its sustainability and prevent the disaster by a smart risk management of resilient roads
In conclusion, we hope that the next REAAA’s Business Forum can be growing significantly by developing its huge potential, promoting the road industry growth in the region, and collaborating among companies, particularly in Asia and Australasia regions. Furthermore, we also hope that REAAA’s Business Forum able to cover wider range of issues or topic that even can reach not only REAAA members but beyond it. This can be become opportunities as well where this forum can be used as a platform in promoting REAAA.
